Battery powered high voltage multiplier for gas igniter or stun gun

By Radu Motisan Posted on September 8th, 2011 , 11345 Views (Rate 17.45)

Here's a compact device that will take 9V in (using a small battery) and output high voltage close to 10KV.
It uses a small Armstrong feedback oscillator, a small ferrite core with a high voltage secondary (from TV), and a multiplier. The schematics for the oscillator can be found here.

Some pictures:

The flyback output is close to 5KV. The multiplier is a 4 stages Villard cascade.

    Hey

May i have an email address of yours? I left a comment previously about one of your posts but I didn’t get a response back. It would be great if we can have an email conversation.

    Cheers,
    M.

    HI,
what are villard multiplier’s valours? How much values the capacitors and the diodes?

  3. 3
    Radu Motisan:

the multiplier uses 6kv 10nF capacitors (the blue ones) and 14KV 3ma diodes.

    Zollo Giuseppe:

Thank you very much, i wanna make something like this, it’s very beautiful..so from 9V you turn DC in AC with the oscillator, then you transform the voltage with a tv transformer, and then you transform again the current with the multiplier to high voltage in DC?

  5. 5
    Radu:

    yes.

  6. 6
    Zollo Giuseppe:

What’s the red component on the multiplier? there are 4 capacitors, 4 diodes and a red component which in the video loses a bit current

  7. 7
    Radu Motisan:

that was a resistor. it didn’t handle the hv too well. you will need a hv resistor to limit the current and protect the multiplier

  8. 8
    Zollo Giuseppe:

so with a resistor the current will be inferior but the voltage high the same? how much does it have to value?

can i get the schematic diagram for this project.

    what exactly do you need?

    Paul Marian:
