A Farnsworth–Hirsch Fusor failed attempt

By Radu Motisan Posted on January 7th, 2011 , 652 Views (Rate 0.75)

I had this refrigerator compressor so I created two concentric spherical wire electrodes inside a Florence flask. This flask also has a side tube, ideal for sucking out the air. The High voltage supply was my 50KV described here. The inner electrode is charged negatively with respect to the outer one. Once the ions enter the region between the electrodes, they are accelerated towards the center. No deuterium used.
Unfortunately the compressor doesn't create a high enough vacuum, but also the shape of the electrodes was far from perfect:

An expected failure for this 2 hours experiment, but I will give it another try someday, allocating more time and resources.
